Learning by games is the easiest way for kids
Reasons and arguments
Education has long been considered the key to unlocking human potential. While formal education forms the backbone of this journey, non-formal education is increasingly recognized as a dynamic and effective complement to traditional learning. Among its many methods, learning through games stands out as a powerful tool for fostering creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration.
So, children at age of 6 stilll have not aquired discipline, which means that teachers need to look for practical methods, thath will provide a way for students to aquire knoledge.
My suggestion
- To include games during the education in several ways:
1. To start the class with a game connected to the material/energizer
2. To play a game during the middle of the class
3. To end the class with a game
4. To have a game for homework or to think of a game they want to be part of tha class
* Teacher should choose one of these suggestions for one class
Why games in education?
Games are not just about entertainment; they are powerful vehicles for learning. Here’s why:
Engagement and Motivation
Games are inherently engaging. They captivate learners’ attention, keeping them motivated and curious throughout the learning process. Unlike traditional lectures, games encourage active participation and sustained focus.
Experiential Learning
Games create opportunities for hands-on, experiential learning. Whether it’s solving puzzles, building strategies, or collaborating in team challenges, players acquire knowledge by doing.
Fostering Collaboration and Communication
Many games require teamwork, promoting interpersonal skills like collaboration, communication, and conflict resolution—critical competencies in today’s interconnected world.
Cognitive and Emotional Development
Games enhance problem-solving skills, creativity, and decision-making. Additionally, they often evoke emotions, making learning more memorable and impactful.
Examples of learning through games
Educational Board Games
Games like Scrabble enhance vocabulary, while Settlers of Catan teaches resource management and strategic planning. Such games combine fun with educational value.
Digital Learning Games
Platforms like Kahoot! or Minecraft: Education Edition integrate digital games into classrooms. These tools engage learners with interactive challenges and creative problem-solving tasks.
Role-Playing and Simulations
Role-playing games (RPGs) simulate real-world scenarios, helping learners develop empathy, leadership skills, and practical knowledge. For instance, a game simulating a business negotiation can teach valuable professional skills.
Physical Games and Activities
Outdoor or team-building games encourage physical activity and teach teamwork, perseverance, and leadership in a playful context.
Benefits of non-formal education through games
o Inclusion: Games can be adapted for diverse learning needs, making education accessible to all.
o Skill Development: From critical thinking to emotional intelligence, games cultivate a wide range of skills.
o Lifelong Learning: Games foster a love for learning, encouraging curiosity and adaptability beyond formal education settings.
In an ever-changing world, traditional education alone cannot meet the demands of modern learners. Non-formal education, particularly through game-based learning, is a forward-thinking approach that bridges the gap. By making education engaging, relevant, and accessible, games have the power to transform how we learn and grow. As we embrace this innovative methodology, one thing is clear: the future of learning is not just in classrooms but also in the joy of play.
